Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly-rated and highly-functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop, is a well made machine. The price of $1,400 is difficult to swallow, but you can find it on sale frequently enough to make the purchase more acceptable. The unit looks great, and the base station takes up only a tiny space in the corner of an area.
The design of this robot addresses a few problems that we've encountered with other robotic mop and vacuum units, like the brushes becoming entangled in hair, or the brush being unable to reach bare floors underneath furniture. The ability to sweep carpets and floors that are not covered is also impressive. The vacuum/mop system has an excellent level of debris pickup, and the mop can saturate bare floors quickly.
The mops utilize a clever system that cleans the edges of walls, and around furniture. The robot can easily avoid obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. It could get caught or stuck with smaller, less hefty objects such as shoelaces, USB cables, and pen.
This robot was used to mop and vacuum hardwood flooring, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a large open-plan home. With FREO Mind enabled, it vacuumed and mopped a 90m2 space in around 170 minutes which is about the average for Gen 4.
This robot is distinguished by a variety of characteristics. The Freo X Ultra has a array of sensors, software and hardware improvements designed to keep it at the top of its class. It has declared autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments of up to 260m2.
self vacuum can alter a variety of functions from the Freo app, such as how frequently the robot comes back to the base station the frequency of mopping, as well as power (silent or smart), and its mopping humidity. The app is able to detect soiled spots and create an effective cleaning route. It can also dispense detergent or raise the carpet pads.
Other impressive features include a rapid charging battery, a simple-to-read display on the robot's bottom and a handy dock door that can be opened easily. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is ideal for apartment and home owners who want to reduce their chores and keep their home clean.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the field of robotic vacuuming. This new model is designed to take cleaning capabilities to a new level, thanks to its smart features.
The RX3 features a dual-suction technology, intelligent mapping with 3D mapping, and camera that transmits an image in real-time to your smartphone. The RX3's powerful four-stage system for cleaning offers excellent dust pickup on hard and carpet flooring, while the intuitive swing-out side brushes and dual suction channels clean in corners. Its 8.5 cm height lets it reach under low furniture. Front cameras and an infrared sensor help it navigate obstacles, thresholds, and obstructions with ease.
In our test of how it cleaned baking soda near corners and baseboards the Scout RX3 was impressive. Its suction was less powerful than other robots but it was still quiet and moved quickly. It didn't mop, and its cleaning pad that was removable was a challenge to attach. It also was unable to handle dried-on dirt.

Its app is on the basic side, lacking advanced features like multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It does support Alexa however, its voice controls aren't particularly intuitive or responsive. And it's also a little flaky when it comes to returning to the charging station following a run other robots are able to trace a previous path or follow a wall around until they reach their home, but the RX3 is a fumbler until it finally gives up and sends a failure message to your phone.
Another issue we faced was with its smart features, particularly the mapping function and digital keep-out zones. While it did a great job of avoiding our shoes and furniture legs, it got easily hung up by cables and socks and it was not able to manage the tassels that adorn rugs. That's why we chose not to include it on our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and a dazzling performance. It's worth considering as an alternative to traditional uprights.
